Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to receive a pair of shoes?
The time taken will vary according to the amount of work in progress. To receive your first pair of shoes would generally take about 6 months, possibly longer depending on how much work your last maker has on. The last is the wooden mould we make your shoe around. Once we have made your lasts subsequent pairs would take around 3 months. Whenever possible if you require your shoes by a particular date we shall do our best to make them.
Do you make a trial pair if it is my first pair of shoes?
We don’t normally make a trial pair. We make the shoes to completion and then ask you to try them. With your first pair we may need to make some adjustments. If you are having trees made we would normally keep the shoes after you have tried them to make the trees fit precisely into the shoes.
How many fittings will I need?
We would hope with the majority of customers to make your shoes fit properly after one fitting. It always depends on how difficult your feet are to fit with a well fitting pair of shoes. Once the first pair fits well subsequent pairs would normally not require a fitting.
Do I have to come to the shop to be measured?
No, we have representatives travelling at various times throughout the year to a number of countries around the world – see the representatives itinerary section on the website. If you are unable to see a representative and it is difficult for you to come to the shop we will be happy to send you a self-measurement form. However, we would recommend that we take your measures if possible.
Do I have to come to the shop for my first fitting?
We would recommend you have your shoes fitted in the shop. However if this is not possible we can send them to you and if you have any problems with them you can either come to the shop when it is convenient or see a representative travelling in your area.
Do I require a deposit?
We ask for a 50% deposit on all orders.
Do you supply ready-made shoes?
We do not sell ready-to-wear shoes. John Lobb ready to wear shoes are sold by the Hermes owned arm of John Lobb. See about the link between the two companies below.

What is the link between John Lobb, and the French arm of John Lobb run by Hermes?
In 1901 William Lobb, son of the original John Lobb, opened a further branch of the business in Rue de Vingt Neuf Juilliett in the 1st Arrondissement in central Paris. In 1976 a controlling interest in this French arm of John Lobb was acquired by the Hermes Group, while John Lobb throughout the rest of the world outside France remained under the ownership of the Lobb family.
Today John Lobb continues under the ownership of the Lobb family. However, the French arm of John Lobb, John Lobb SAS, remains part of the Hermes Group, which continues to operate independently from its bespoke workshop which is now in 32 rue de Mogador in Paris, as well as through its ready-to-wear shops around the world from which it sells its own range of ready-to-wear shoes under the John Lobb family name.
